Here’s my take on this look and I hope you pardon the lack of BLONDE PUFFY HAIR and killer pink cheeks on my part heehee

The Hime Gyaru look is similar to that of looking like a princess, big blonde wavy hair, big eyes, light brows, soft pink cheeks and pretty dresses…. I love the idea of dressing and acting like a Princess because we are only young once and we ladies deserve to be pampered. With all the stresses put on ladies in present times, it’s only right that we put ourselves first when the time calls for it.

During my short trip to Japan last year, I was captivated by all the Himegyarus on the streets. Their hair was amazing, their dressing unique, their makeup flawless.

The amount of time, money and effort that goes into such careful outward presentation spoke volumes to me. It made me feel guilty about being sloppy!

Lets get into this whole  HIME PRINCESS craze!

Gyaru is a fashion in japan for teenage girls that’s all about designer

clothes, para para(a structured dance done to eurobeat and trance music),

and having fun. The girls often tan or dye or bleach their hair but that’s not

necessary. There are many  types of gyaru but the one that is becoming

increasingly popular is himegyaru style.

This style is not to become confused with the Japanese lolita fashion who wear poofy skirts and try to be child-like. Hime gyaru is about looking like a young lady who is well off. They wear cocktail dresses in mainly pastel colors with lots of bows. They usually are fair

skinned or don’t have very dark tans. Their hair is often light brown or blonde and in a beehive style. The hair is VERY big.
The point of the style is too look fancy and

beautiful like a young woman not an innocent little girl like

lolita.

For any Himegyaru, wearing BIG PUFFY HAIR is one of the most basic and essential steps.

Below are some videos that have helped me immensely with curling techniques to achieve the HIME look.

1a) CURLING HAIR BASICS:

Personally I really really liked this Long wave hair video. I applied the  same technique to my hair and found that my waves were extremely “ curly fries-ish.” This is a pretty useful and effective technique  for Japanese Looks!

In the past, I under estimated the usefulness of a hair curler to achieve volumious hair. If I could redo all my hair purchases, I would get myself a great curler ( Luv Jose Eber), a good hair straightener , hair pins,a backcomb and hair spray.

€My Himegyaru Inspiration€ :

€FACE – SUNBLOCK &  HIMEGAYRU Hair Style€:

Sometimes I feel absolutely grossed out looking at my naked face. However, one look at these Korean stars with and without makeup brings me a little more comfort, knowing that everyone needs to put in some effort to look good.

€EYES – CIRCLE LENS€

€ARDELL LASH GROWTH ACCELERATOR€ (STRENGTHEN MY LASHES)

€EYEBROWS€

- Hime eyebrow look is not too thin or thick. Its got to be just right with a medium arch and brows should be a light orangey brown.

-Fill in eyebrows with pencil and apply small short strokes.

- Using an angled brush and taking a mixture of a light orange and brown color, fill in the brows. Brows should be kept a few shades lighter than your hair color.

-Eyebrow Mascara ( Ettusias). A cheaper and equally effective alternative would be to use a light brown mascara and sweep over brows.

€EYE COLOR€

-A mixture of Pinks and Light Purple was used on my eyes. I touched up a few times at the end of the look, especially when I was trying to put on my falsies. Sometimes, the eye color isn’t as intense as you expected and its really okay to reapply.

-Blend NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Milk on top and bottom lid, to act as an eye shadow base

-Blend a mixture of pink and purple eyeshadow close to lash line and extend a little over the crease. Asian lids in general are very heavy and we usually have to “ create” our own Crease with a darker eyeshadow color.

-Blend the Pinkish E\S with ur fingers. This is the method I like to use when I am wearing a creamier base, like NYX Milk Jumbo pencil.

-Blend a dark blue from the 120 eyeshadow palette on the bottom eyelid. Its okay to be messy here.

-Using my new favourite Liner brush from MAC * 266* and any random black gel liner, I once again line the top and bottom lash line.

-Re- Line my eyes with SANA Extra Heavy Liquid Liner for more intense color ( makeup needs to be exaggerated somewhat for picture)

-White eyeliner on the bottom water line. An eye widening trick that is used by professionals all the time. I am using MAC Eyeliner in Fascinating.

-Apply an off white eye shadow color to the brow bone area

-At this point, I wouldn’t touch up on the eye shadow cause it tends to get a little messy  when I put on the falsies. I prefer to wait till the end to clean off any mistake than layer on more pinkish\purplish eye shadow.

-Apply Mascara. As much as you want.

-Luscious Lashes x2

Critical for looking like a Princess

-Tip* Do re-apply liquid eyeliner to the bottom lash line and smudge slightly for that wide eyed look.

-Thick layer of gloss!

Sometimes, my hubby looks at me and wonders how a girl can have a gazillion brushes, a million eye shadows and a billion lip glosses. Girls don’t like to play with guns and ammunition, we play with weapons of “lethal attraction.”

Lame , lame. But my point will be made clear with a completely un-doctored photo of  me first thing in the morning, before I camouflage, conceal and emphasize!

Yes, I look quite gross in the mornings and my nose is looking huge!

After washing my face and applying sunblock,  I was super excited to reach for my newly purchased fresh kon contacts! My eyes didn’t really look any much bigger and I’m feeling a little disappointed. I‘m  thinking of switching to the really popular Geo Circle Lens cause they seem to be the best choice for enlarging the eyes look to create any Jap or Korean Inspired lOok.Sigh……looks like I’ll have to wait for my order to be shipped.. I hate to wait, especially for exciting stuff!

My Journey to bigger eyes with FRESH KON ALLURING EYES – CONTACT LENS in WINSOME BROWN:

I bought these contacts from North Point and this is what I got:

Not much difference right? I was expecting my eyes to look super Ulzzangish! I just look a bit sweeter and more innocent looking. Otherwise, nothing much has changed with these contacts that were hard as hell to put in.

“Ulzzang” is a Korean word that means "best face", and the term is used to describe people who have become popular for their appearances. The ulzzang craze started in South Korea, where some of the most famous ulzzangs can earn celebrity status.

Many ulzzang wannabes post their pictures on websites, where contests are often held to pick the prettiest faces. While many of these people are natural beauties, many contestants also photoshop their pictures and wear tons of makeup. On the subject of beauty, I think flowers are extremely beautiful too. Not the cheesy rose or lily but exotic looking fresh and dried flowers that look like they just flew in from Australia.

My Dearest Friend, Ms E gave me a treat in one of Chinatown’s most popular Boutique Hotel ( The Scarlet ) and the shops next to it are like GEMS.They carry very unique items that made me salivate and want to burst my account. First off was this amazing Flower Shop called POLLEN ( Flower Connoisseur). I bought dried hydrangea and a eucalyptus flower. It was mighty inconvenient lugging it all over the place but I was SO SO SO happy to have found such exquisite looking flowers.

I had a request for more Korean centric tutorials and since then I’ve been hunting the web and magazines for Korean style makeup and tutorials.

One thing that strikes me as being the MAINSTAY for any Korean look is

NATURAL LOOKING EYEBROWS

&

A CLEAN CLEAR FACE

Let’s start off with the eyebrows. The shape of  Korean eyebrows are never ever thin or sparse looking. They all have a gentle arch at the end and I really like how they make their eyebrows look so natural and full looking. They truly believe in the idea that “ Eyebrows aren’t suppose to look like twins but sisters” ( I  remember this from Michelle Phan’s videos). Also, its such a relief that their eyebrows aren’t perfectly shaped. I’ve never been able to draw a perfectly shaped eyebrow in my life, it looks very unnatural on me.

Korean styled eyebrows gives a youthful appearance because they tend to frame wide faces very nicely. I should know cause I have a wide face myself! If I have thin eyebrows, my face will look really  big. That is not cute at all!

Achieving Korean Styled Eyebrows:

First and foremost, its critical to understand the structure of an eyebrow.

The picture below was taken from a Japanese Magazine, which captures perfectly the essence of naturally shaped brows.
1) Use a pencil( 2 shades lighter than ur own brow) to draw your eyebrow shape and fill it in with small strokes.

Over here, I have zoomed in on the eyebrows to show the basic shape of a Korean eyebrow. It is extremely tapered and fine at the end while being much broader at the start. Also, the arc is very gradual and soft.

2) Taking a similar colored eye shadow blend onto eyebrow with a brush.Color should be concentrated on the ends,with the least color concentration at the beginning. This pictorial diagram from MIna magazine describes how to use eye shadow to fill in the brows. It’s a pretty good guideline.

3) Use the brush below to blend the eye shadow and pencil. Pay attention to how well you blend because this is critical to making ur brows natural looking. If you don’t blend enough, it can look harsh.

4) Perfection is not the aim here. Take your eyebrow mascara ( light color) to gently sweep your eyebrows, to make it look neat and well groomed.

I know the order isn’t right but the FIRST most important step would be to create a blank canvas to work on.

Koreans have amazing skin which allows them to easily create an illusion of flawless beauty. Its okay if you have imperfections but its recommended to cover up flaws to achieve that flawless Korean Look.

In the past, I used to put on full face and full coverage makeup, but it was for makeup school and the important occasions. I like to let my skin breathe.Nowadays, I’m focused on clearing my skin to reduce the amount of stuff I have to use. I use a sunblock instead of foundation or powder.Its pretty heavy duty and covers most of my reddness and imperfections. For that huge zit or stubborn acne marks, I still use a doctor prescribed concealor on top of my sunblock.

Many still stick with full face coverage and these were the steps I used to achieve a Blank Canvas:

1) Moisturize – This step is critical is achieving a smooth base and will assist with blending of the foundation.

Great Moisturisers : Clinique dramatically different moisturiser, Yamano Moisturiser, Dr Secrets, Biotherm combination skin moisturiser

2) Dab spots,dark areas,imperfections  and blend with a Salmon Colored Concealor

Great Concealor: Bobbi Brown,YSL

3) Mix liquid foundation with a cream foundation and blend with a foundation brush. Blend the foundation from the T ZONE out.

This gives the most natural looking and lasting coverage effect. Alternatively, you can replace concealor and foundation with plain old BB cream if its good enough for you! I personally don’t use BB cream so I can’t recommend.

Great Foundations: Shu Uemura, YSL ,Maybelline, Cream Foundation ( Kryolan )

Foundation color should be a shade or two lighter than your own skin tone because foundation tends to oxidize and get darker with time.

4) Set with light powdering – Careful not to be too heavy handed or generous with powder or your korean look can end up looking very cakey & completely overdone.

Great Powders: Shu Uemura, ZA, Maybelline

5) Check your blank canvas in the mirror and especially where there is natural light. Look out for unblended or cakey areas. You can always use a tissue paper to lightly dab away unwanted foundation or use a brush to patch up on blank areas.

6) Some people set their makeup with a spritz  of Evian Water. Apparently it sets the makeup… …

VIOLA, you should have a clear canvas by now. Remember that full coverage makeup should always be removed at the end of the day with a good cleansing oil. Never sleep with makeup on because it will definitely clog ur pores.

IN MY MAMA’S HOUSE, SOMEWHERE WITH ALOT OF GREENS & A BUS THAT TAKES 4EVER to come….

I was having dinner with the gals a few weeks ago when we got taking about JOSE EBER curling iron. I want to post these pictures for a dear friend of mine who is pretty keen on getting them….

JOSE EBER 19mm CURLING IRON

PROs:

+Curls are super natural and hold pretty well even without product

+It doesn’t get too hot so you won’t burn ur fingers if u touch the rod accidentally

+Very easy to use

CONs:

-A deflated bank account for financially challenged beings like me

-When I bought this at VIVO city, they were being supported by metal rings, which allowed the curling iron to hang vertically without dropping… …. I don’t think any human has metal rings in their homes to specially hang their hot irons.

In my home, I’m lucky to have some amount of wooden flooring for me to place this curling iron on. Do not place this on laminate flooring cause it can spoil it, in the long run. They should make a metal standing thingy that comes with most curling irons so that we can place it safely on the table without the rod coming into contact with the surface. ya know wat I mean right? Pls shoot me if u don’t.

In the afternoon, it got super super hot , I tied my hair up into 2 pig tails & my hubby called me

Looking at her really cracks me up all the time. Her pigtails and ridiculous orange freckles remind me not to take things so seriously & have a good laugh at myself every once in a while. Ya know ~

Also, I am a mascara addict. I switch Mascaras like a tick.

Lately, I have been going forth between the Colossal Mascara by Maybelline ( grabbed this from changi airport T3) and FASIO mascara ( a bitch to remove)

As far as curl goes, Fasio wins. As far as removal goes Colossal Wins. As far as volume goes, Colossal also wins but I was pretty disappointed in its performance cause of all the rave reviews I’ve been reading. It doesn’t do much for me, so I won’t buy it again. Fasio mascara have great curling and holding power but its like CEMENT on my lashes. My lashes fall out and they are pathetic because of this mascara. TOo bad. I like the curl.

In summary, I am not going to buy either of these mascaras again. Phew… … Now I can invest some cash into the circle lenses that bring me a step closer to huge eyes!!

I used my Acer Webcam to take these shots. Pretty Clear if you ask me. If I look oily, its because I was born this way.    

Also, I know this is super late, but there were fireworks on the 4th July outside my home.

Who doesn’t get stressed out from work? A great stress suppressor to me stems from a great shopping workout. Strenuous exercise makes me fat cause I bulk up very fast, so I don’t have any other choice but to shop. Shopping allows me to walk alot and in that way my mind gets to wonder and my legs gets to stretch and do some light exercise and all in all I’m a happy girl!

Shu Uemura MINI Eyelash Curler

I’ve been hearing rave reviews on this curler. It’s suppose to give your outer lashes a more curled appearance. Normal curlers don’t catch the outer lashes as well as this mini lash curler. I’ve used it and I like how comfortable it feels. It doesn’t bite my skin or tug at the outer lash. YEAH!

I’ve been eyeing Shu Uemura fake eyelashes for quite some time after being totally inspired by Lady Gaga Makeup.

I love how flamboyant her lashes are in this picture but I brought myself back to reality with a simple question of “ Will you ever wear these outrageous lashes anywhere besides home ?” Answer was fairly simple. Never.

There’s no way I can go out with those lashes she’s wearing above …. …. hahaha

So I settled for SMOKEY LAYERS. They look very natural and flirty and the SA told me it could be reused 10 times. This pair costs 40 bucks so I am going to use it till it falls apart.

I am hoping that Shu Uemura won’t let me dow  as they rarely ever deliver a bad product, so fingers crossed here!

Ettusais Eyebrow Mascara

According to their website , theWaterproof eyebrow mascara neatens eyebrows to give a natural finish. Resistant to sweat, water and sebum. Comes in 3 different shades.

I think my eyebrows need some taming and this could be the answer on days I am too tired( lazy) to draw the eyebrows.

Diverging abit, Ettusais Hypercurl Masacara is an amazing amazing mascara.I buy it when I feel a little more rich. Overall, I like Ettusais!

I like this product cause its light and it’s tinted to cover my dark circles. All this work stress, late nights are starting to show. Its only professional for me to not look like a PANDA bear at work Plus I gotta take care of my eyes.

The King of Pop is an absolute legend and its such a shock that he passed away at the young age of 50.

No human being can come close to dancing, singing or entertaining like him.

His was a life of fame, plagued by  endless legal suits, debts, family and image  issues.

When I watch his old videos, its like being transported to another time zone. Its like re-living my past and it makes me feel sad that this eccentric genius is gone….

I take comfort in one fact that despite everything, his music lives on.

On the MAKEUP & HAIR front :

After a serious hair frying incident and a rebonding session to salvage the over preocessed hair, I decided to chop off all the dead ends. I went to the shop and told the aunty to give me a straight hair cut and take off 3-4 inches of hair.

Now, when I leave my hair to air dry , its dead straight:

I had a fun time catching up with my pretty and wonderful friends last night and at the end of the day, my hair would look a little more wavy ….

When I curl this shorter  hair of mine, I find that it looks mighty short….I’ve always had long hair most of my life, so I guess I’m used to feeling hair on my back and framing my face. I would love to try a really short hair style but I know it will spell disaster for my fat face. Also, I am making a guess that my Hubby will be frowning, ALOT!

Right now, my hair is just naturally pin straight. It takes alot of time and product to make it stay curled. I must wake up earlier for the sake of grooming my hair ( but I’m so lazy) ! hehehe

EYE FLASHER!

I bought EYE FLASHER  recently at Watsons.I am a true blue sucker for Japanese Products and this one was sitting pretty on the shelve with the most gorgeous wet SILVER Eyeshadow ( right most shade on palette). The Japs are so smart, they include simple instructions on the packaging to obtain 3 different looks.

My Favorite has to be the first one – Smokey Big Eye

I think the colors really compliment Asian yellow skin tones and they work together really well!

Many eye shadow palettes have certain colors that are crappy and certain colors that are gorgeous.This palette is that bit more special cause all the colors look great together and are so easy to blend, and they leave a gorgeous shine. I like the angled applicator tip that comes with the palette as it is suited for small areas, which then allows you to brighten the inner eye corners very nicely.

Also, the wet silver color on the right most is super super hot.

The Comparison:

**I won’t do a comparison in terms of color because one is dark brown( Sephora) and the other is black ( Extra Heavy Eyeliner).

+ Very easy to use

+ The firm tip allows for easy application even on the lower eye lash

+ Does not smudge when you sweat

- The Tip does not allow for a very fine application like Sephora

- Leaves a hint of color after removal

SEPHORA

+ Very Fine Tip Applicator for exact and precise lines

+ Cheaper than Sana Heavy Eyeliner

+ Easy to remove

- Takes rather long to dry

- Smudges easily

-Occasionally leaves a reddish tint after removal ( this can look pretty scary)

Personally, I would go with SANA EXTRA HEAVY EYELINER. I find pen type liquid liners easier to grip and draw and I like the fact that my sister preferred the eye with SANA Heavy Eyeliner more than the eye with Sephora’s Line.

However, not to be too bias towards Japanese Products, I do find that brown eyeliner gives a softer appearance as compared to black liners and Sephora’s liner tips are thin yet firm, thus drawing a  precise line most of the time.

Everyone will have their own favorites, so do have fun experimenting!

Another Japanese Product that I am GAGA about. This makeup remover is so so effective yet gentle at the same time. I think Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil has a serious contender and I think this baby may emerge the winner. WHY?

5 Basic Facts about ME

1) I have a makeup artistry diploma from Cosmoprof. Nobody could really understand my obsession for makeup… Hehehe I don’t blame them.

2) I am 24, going 25 this year. My field of study was in business administration. A very general degree that I truly regret , because it didn’t turn me into anything amazing. Kuala Lumpur

Taking a short trip up to KL in a coach was a really fun (good company) , yet painful experience (6-7 hour ride gave me a backache).

We stayed in Swiss Garden Hotel ( pretty clean & new):

We scoured the malls – Sungei Wang, New Times Square and Lot 10 in KL and I just had to visit their Guardian & Watson for a peek. Guess what, these lucky buggers have KATE selling in most of their pharmacies. That’s completely easy access to such wonderful makeup.

After walking around in Malls, we took a trip to Chinatown. It was a nice change from the concrete jungle. Here’s what I picked up on a small budget:

Mineral Makeup Tips: 

* Since they come in a powder form and can be get messy when in a rush, I like to “make them stick” them with Coastal Scents EZ Prez

* Always use an Eyeshadow or Makeup Base prior to using minerals, as they are very finely milled and adhere better to a sticky surface

* Give MAD Minerals , Coastal Scents or Everyday Minerals a try. They are very efficient when it comes to shipping and have a large assortment of colors.

* For sensitive skin types, do not fret. Mineral Cosmetics can be used with minimal irritation for the eyes, cheeks, skin, nails and they are so so easy to use.

Steps by Step Seductive Eye with

Mineral Pigments:

First step before putting on any color is to prime the lids. Here, I used Sephora’s Colorful Duo Creamy eyeshadow. The beige-y color lends a hint of shine to the eye area. Also, it adds as a holding base to enhance the vibrancy of the mineral pigments.

Secondly, armed with my trusty coastal scents blending brush, softly blend in a sooty green pigment on the double  eyelid area, keeping close to the eyelids and not exceeding the crease.

With the same brush, blend a light blue color to the bottom lid

Using MAC Pigment ( i forgot the name of this cause it was a sample ), apply and blend very close to bottom lash line. It shouldn’t cover the blue pigments completely.

Using my fingertip, I blend a gold-ish pigment on my brow bone. Gold  complements my skin tone better than a shiny blue-ish white .

Blend the darker pigment well into the crease in a back and forth motion or tiny circular motion

Blend a lighter color near the tear duct area, to open up the eyes

Subsequent Steps:

-Line water line with a dark pencil

-Curl & Mascara

-Fill Brows

Lips are kept sheer & moist

* Add blusher & tons of

mascara for extra OOmph!

Blovetbeauty Rates: Really good exfoliating product. I would recommend not using it every day as it has warming properties. It’s probably better to use it every other day. The heat is activated by water so you might get a little shock when you first use it, but its real soothing once you get used to the unique warming properties and I’m sure you’ll eventually grow to enjoy the sensation. If your skin can’t tolerate Glycolic Acid, best to give this product a miss. Otherwise, I love how it doesn’t irritate the skin and makes me feel like I’m getting a warm facial. 

Thermal skin polisher is a keeper from Olay & I’ll definitely travel all the way down to Changi Airport Terminal 3 to restock ! I haven’t found it in any regular Watson or Guardian ( W&G) store yet! lease inform me if u see this around at regular (W&G) stores

Everyone loves this doctor’s bag that I purchased from Modhuman .

The zipper was faulty but otherwise its in pretty good condition. The base is sturdy and the shape is super solid. I love it cause I can dump my world into this bag.

Pucker Up @ Body Shop

I can really pucker my lips. Irritating I know

Amazing stuff from body shop. Fifi posted some reviews on Body shop products and that kind of made me tempted to go check body shop out. Moreover, the Great Singapore Sale that’s going on right now made it super tempting for me to do some shopping…. so I ended up with amazing lip balms: 2  for $12 + and this orange colored fruity smelling soap, that makes your toilet smell like fruit HEAVEN after a nice hot bath!  I picked up 3 soaps cause they were on offer : Buy  2 to get 1 free… … This orange soap will make you smell so good at a very reasonable price of $4+.

Man oh man. This GSS is doing big time damage to my wallet. I am buying way too many things.

Really nice off white color . I like this cause its very moisturizing & great base color for nude lipsticks.

This lip balm color is something I would use on a daily basis. Its really pretty alone, as it has a nice shimmer to it and make my lips look pouty & cute!
